Ivins City’s Stormwater Division is responsible for protecting people, property, and the environment by managing stormwater runoff from rainfall. Our team oversees the design, maintenance, and regulation of the city’s storm drain infrastructure and ensures compliance with the State of Utah’s Small MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System) Permit.
We work to reduce flooding, improve water quality, and educate the public on how everyday actions affect the health of our waterways and desert environment.
Stormwater is water from rain that flows across roofs, streets, parking lots, and yards. Unlike wastewater, stormwater does not go to a treatment plant—it enters the city’s system of gutters, inlets, pipes, and channels and flows directly into natural washes and desert landscapes eventually making it to the Santa Clara River.
As it travels, stormwater can pick up pollutants like oil, pesticides, trash, sediment, and pet waste—making storm drains a direct pipeline to potentially pollute our environment.
Ivins City maintains an extensive system of:
Our team regularly inspects and maintains these facilities to ensure proper function, prevent blockages, and reduce flood risks during major storm events.
As a regulated Small MS4, Ivins City is required by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to operate a comprehensive stormwater management program (SWMP). Key program elements include:

These small steps help prevent pollution, protect our desert washes, and reduce city maintenance costs.
